Why we thrift

Why we Thrift-Every thrifted find tells a story. Here’s why we believe in giving beautiful items a second life — and how they bring charm and sustainability to each box.
I used to walk into a second hand store with my stepmother, she always found the best deals and the cutest stuff with a giant smile on her face. I have bitter sweet memories of doing this with her however, I on the other hand would walk in and cringe. i would smell musty and old to me. I couldn't fathom wearing someone else's things. I grew up in a home where i still had tags on clothes, i was the one donating. I didnt have an appreciation ofr things and it showed. Fast forward to a time where fast fashion is consuming us, cheap clothes are breaking because they aren't made like the goold ole days. I dont want to spend a bunch of money on clothes for my kids when they will outgrow it in a blink of an eye, literally .so i started to dabble in it, i started to appreciate my things more. i fall victim to the perfect instagram posts and the tik tok shop too often spending money on things i don't even remember buying. Prime two day delovery has made it too easy with the swipe of the buy now option. When studying in college for my MSW that i never ended up fullfilling, i learned a lot. one important thing i learned was how we are disposing of product, we are consuming and disposing so quickly that we are running out of space. we are burning chemicals and it is traveling in the air to our longs. oh my goodness i never thought i would talk about this let alone write this down as if i am some activist. its as if i am preaching to myself! to get back on track yes this is why i thrift. items tell a story and as i hold them in my hand i wonder what other storeis and memories will be made of this item. I am livid at myself for throwing away and donating so much stuff when we sold our house. Especially now starting a business, i could've used it. I'm disgusted about how much stuff i had. minimal living sounds great but im not there yet. Oh my gosh i still cant belove it, im starting a business!
When thinking of Partea Place and how we are rooted in love, wanting tp change the world for a better and creating a movement spread in kindness to create a better world for our children, thrifting almost just seemed so natural. How could we not repurpose cute doilies and tea cups. I actually toughly enjoy finding new stores and checking out what someone didn't want anymore, after all one mans trash is another's treasure. I have even resorted to facebook market place and have found so many vintage items! Who would have thought something i used as a child would be vintage hahaha. I wish my grandmother was a pack rat and i could go to her and take all the orange, green and yellow 1950's decor and kitchenware. I'm obsessed. I have finally found my purpose and my passion and i want to share it with you, i want to scream it at the top of my lungs for the whole world to here! LETS SAVE THE PLANET, LETS BE KIND AND SUSTAINABLE!!!
